Throwback to Cheerfest: A Grade-by-Grade Photo Essay

Every year, Upper School students gather and perform their class cheers. The event is filled with excitement and school spirit, celebrating the homecoming game and ushering in the new school year. It was all the more special because this was the first time since the end of the pandemic that the event was held at the Lower Gym. Each class performed their cheer, all competing to be the loudest and the most enthusiastic. This year, the seniors celebrated their final homecoming with the first place victory, with the sophomores coming in second and the seventh graders placing third. Cheerfest has been an ongoing tradition at ‘Iolani and each year is packed with Raider pride without exception.

“Hey Raiders, you’re so fine. We’re the Class of Twenty-nine!” Even though it was the seventh graders’ first Cheerfest, their hard work paid off as they won third place! With great excitement and lots of jumping, they showed up with their Raider spirit. // Photo by Chloe P. ’27
“Eō e ko ‘Iolani, papa lua-’ole-lua-walu!” As the eighth graders marched towards the front of the stage, the crowd went wild. Starting the cheer out in Hawaiian delivered a strong message on the school’s connection and commitment to Hawaiian culture. // Photo by Chloe P. ’27
“Freshmen, freshmen, freshmen…Yeah we’re number one!” The wild Freshmen were ecstatic, displaying their school spirit as first time high schoolers. Using flags and signs, their Raiders spirit was on full display! // Photo by Chloe P. ’27
Whoosh! Whoosh! Boom! This year’s Sophomore class was not holding anything back and meant business. Covered with face paint and party favors galore, they had an outstanding performance, placing second only behind the senior class! // Photo by Chloe P. ’27
