Ms. Devon DeBevoise
Ms. Devon DeBevoise is an Earth Science 7 teacher at ‘Iolani. It is her first year teaching here, and she is beyond excited for this new chapter in her life. Ms. DeBevoise moved to Hawai‘i four years ago from her previous job teaching Biology at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona to work at The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Upon meeting Dr. Aster Chin in her time working at The University of Hawaiʻi, Ms. DeBevoise expressed interest in working with grade school students. When she was in 7th grade, the same age as her students, her interest in science really took off. Ms. DeBevoise reminisces about her time in middle school and says, “What brought me into science and my love of biology was my middle and high school teachers.” From then on, her passion for science led her to teaching at ‘Iolani. Her love for science is truly inspiring and her mindset that “science and fun are like the same thing” is exactly what the ‘Iolani science department needs. Being a new teacher, Ms. DeBevoise is eager to venture into this new environment and looks forward to getting to know her students. Most of all she is grateful just to be here and to be teaching 7th graders.
