With the 2020 track and field season underway, ‘Iolani athletes will have the opportunity to rise in the ranks and compete for a spot in the Hawai‘i High School Athletics Association (HHSAA) Track and Field Championship. Students, parents and faculty can look forward to fierce competition and new records in a wide range of events—from the 100-m sprint to the pole vault.

Though they undeniably crave victory, Raiders run track for many other reasons. Mia Anzalone ’20 who has come to understand the value of hard work during her time on the team.

“I run track because I love the thrill of competition, and it truly teaches you the payoff of a good work ethic,” said Anzalone. Last season, Anzalone’s efforts helped boost her team to eighth place in the Girls Varsity 4×400 m last season at states.

Meanwhile, Joshua Lerner ’21 participates in track to be part of a team.

“I run because I love my teammates. I love training with them, competing for them, and hopefully, winning for them,” explained Lerner. Lerner placed fourth in the 3000 m last season at states with a time of 9:16.

Every raider will be giving it their all to represent Iolani as a team. Be ready to support them in the upcoming track meets, as the regular season begins in March. Go Raiders!
